Friends Board Members, Officers Elected in January

At the January 25 annual meeting of the Friends of Cherokee Marsh, Timothy Baker, Lesleigh Luttrell, and Wendy Murkve were re-elected by the membership to the Board of Directors, and Ed Snyder was formally elected to the board after having been appointed by the board president during 2024. At the brief January board meeting following adjournment of the annual member meeting, Sheila Leary was elected president, Timothy Baker as vice president, Lesleigh Luttrell as treasurer, and Wendy Murkve as secretary. Longtime board president Jan Axelson retired from board service after 19 years, but continues as an active volunteer with the Friends.

Leary has been a member of the board of Friends of Cherokee Marsh since 2019 and has been active in communications and outreach events for the Friends as well as occasional restoration work. She is a Wisconsin Master Naturalist, an avid native plants gardener, and the retired director of the University of Wisconsin Press.



Besides Leary, other board members in the middle of two-year terms are Mary Binkley, Linda Malkin, Jim Mand, and Paul Noeldner.
