Return of the goats!

Madison Parks brought herds of goats to Cherokee Marsh again this summer. The prescribed grazing helps control invasive plants that shade out native grasses and wildflowers, and it reduces the need for herbicides. Each goat eats about eight pounds of vegetation every day.

Goats were in enclosures in both the North and South Units. Madison Parks has teams of volunteer goat checkers to help make sure everything is running smoothly. These volunteers check on the goats daily. Duties include checking the fence, making sure the goats appear healthy, and refilling their water.
